Sean:
Coming home after a rousing St. Patrick's Day show at Billy O's, I didn't want to stop playing. I took out the mandolin in the kitchen and started strumming some chords. The melody popped into my head, so I whistled along and played. I imagined a flute in place of the whistled melody, and while dinking around with the tune, I heard some big field drums and bagpipes as part of a big finish. For this song which attempts to celebrate the brotherhood of our band and our name, the St. Crispin's Day speech from Shakespeare's Henry V was unavoidable.
Once we started working on this in Bonehead, it kept growing and growing, and when Seamus came in and played his Uilleann Pipes, we knew we had the song where we wanted it.
Go raibh maith agat, Seamus!
lyrics
THE BROTHERS' ANTHEM
We stand for each other,
The best hope we have,
We do not wish for more,
A Band of Brothers
From here to the grave,
We happy few, how our spirits soar!
We do not covet gold,
To Brotherhood we hold,
For he who sings this song with me,
Shall be my brother, ne’er so vile,
So open up your hearts and sing awhile.
